I have a personal connection with each work and composer on this album, ranging from the first piece ever written for me (Stephen Dodgson’s Trumpet Concerto), to Peter Maxwell Davies’ Sonatina (which I performed to the composer himself), and my most recent commission (To Stay Open by Charlotte Harding). The album also features Trinculo by Sally Beamish (commissioned for me in 2016) and arrangements by Andrzej & Roxanna Panufnik (Modlitwa/“Prayer”), Andy Scott (And Everything Is Still), my husband Rupert Whitehead (Farewell to Stromness) and my Dad, Simon Hancock (O Waly Waly).

This self-released album will be available online only. My goal is for as many people as possible to know about these pieces, so it will be freely available on all major audio streaming services and as videos on YouTube.

St Martin-in-the-Fields,
Tuesday 6th May, 4.00pm

I will be celebrating the release of my album with a live performance. Pianist Jennifer Walsh and I will play music from the album and we’ll be joined by some of the composers to discuss how each piece came about. The concert will take place on Tuesday 6th May from 4.00-5.00pm.

This will be an un-ticketed event and donations will be welcome afterwards. I’d also love to invite you to The Marquis for a post-concert drink. I hope you can join us!

Aurora & Abel Selaocoe - Germany/Belgium/London

I have recently returned from a brilliant 10-concert tour with Aurora Orchestra and South African cellist Abel Selaocoe. It was a privilege to perform Abel’s remarkable cello concerto, Four Spirits, and Beethoven’s joyous Symphony No.7 (from memory) to so many enthusiastic audiences across Germany, Belgium and in London. Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM)

I’m thrilled to share the news that I have been awarded Associateship of the Royal Academy of Music. “Every year the Academy confers Associate Honours on former students of the Academy to recognise and celebrate their significant contributions to the musical landscape.” I look forward to receiving my ARAM in April, in a ceremony at the Academy, where I spent four very happy years from 2011-2015.

St Martin’s Voices: The Trumpet Sounds

On Tuesday 25th March I’ll be performing alongside St Martin’s Voices for the next of my concerts as Artist-in-Residence. The programme will feature beautiful works for trumpet and choir by Cecilia McDowall, Gabriel Jackson & Ian Coleman. This concert is part of the of the Choral Discovery series, “which invites audiences to discover lesser known, thought-provoking choral music in short concerts with St Martin’s Voices”. Tickets are £10 and the concert will last for one hour from 7-8pm.
