In October I joined the London Symphony Orchestra for a tour with Chief Conductor Designate, Antonio Pappano. We performed three concerts in London and then went on to Paris, Dortmund, Essen, Madrid, Barcelona and Alicante. Programmes included Beethoven Symphony No.7, Ravel La Valse and Strauss Also sprach Zarathustra (click below to watch the epic opening of this piece!). I had a fantastic time on tour and am looking forward to performing with the orchestra again on Sunday 3rd December for Scriabin’s The Poem of Ecstasy.

In mid-October I performed alongside pianist Richard Errington for the Herefordshire Composers’ Workshop. We gave a two-half, evening recital at the beautiful Bishop’s Palace, Hereford, and our programme included seven premieres of the composers’ works alongside a variety of more well-known repertoire for trumpet and piano. The recital was kindly filmed by Ben Errington, so I have created a 16-minute showreel of highlights from the performance which I hope you’ll enjoy!

Handel’s Messiah arr. Mozart

In December I will be at Saffron Hall (Sun 10th) and the Barbican (Tues 12th) with Britten Sinfonia for our performances of Handel’s Messiah arranged by Mozart. The orchestra has teamed up with the BBC Singers to create a new edition of Mozart’s re-orchestration - a version which is rarely heard and features the addition of trombones, horns, flutes and clarinets to Handel’s oboes, bassoon and trumpets. Christmas at St Martin-in-the-Fields

This Christmas I will be performing alongside fellow brass players and St Martin’s Voices in festive concerts at St Martin-in-the-Fields. I will be playing on Saturday 16th, Sunday 17th, Tuesday 19th and Saturday 23rd December.
On 18th December I will also be playing Principal Trumpet for Handel’s Messiah and on 20th January I will join soprano Jessica Cale for a concert of music for trumpet, soprano and strings. Click the link below for more information on all of these events and to book tickets.

Maestro - out in cinemas today!

Last year I had the brilliant opportunity of filming with the London Symphony Orchestra for Netflix’s new biopic about Leonard Bernstein, Maestro. In this film, directed by and starring Bradley Cooper and produced by Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese, there is a recreation of Bernstein’s famous performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with the LSO at Ely Cathedral. We spent 3 days filming and recording the music for this incredible scene, which is the climax of the film. Maestro is released in cinemas today (24th November) and will be available on Netflix from 20th December. In the photo above, I can just about be seen beneath Bradley Cooper’s right arm, sat in front of the tuba!
